Yesterday morning Dottie had an incident. Her tail got caught in the hinge of the bathroom door and she ran, taking off the fur of the tip of her tail. This was just before Alfie left for work at about 7. I would have left for work at 8:40 but her tail was still bleeding a little so the vet was called. After getting the carrier out of storage and calling somebody from work to let them know where I would be for part of the day, off we went. There is a wonderful vet only 5 minutes from our apartment. He kept Dottie there for the day. They made sure she hadn't broken anything, shaved the fur away from the end of her tail, and put a wet bandage on it. We are so thankful she didn't have any broken vertebrae, otherwise she would have needed to have a partial tail amputation. I got to pick her up on my way home from work. The vet said he was impressed with her and how sweet she was for them, even after getting the tip of her tail ripped off. We've got a pain killer and antibiotics to give her twice a day (thank God they are liquid, not pills - much more manageable for giving to her), and we go back to the vet after work today. They will take off the wet bandage and see how her tail is healing. She might need another wet bandage, or she might get switched to just a normal bandage. Poor cat, she's dragging around her tail with this four inch, hot pink bandage right now. It's rather amusing, really. She'll rub on our legs like she does and, instead of wrapping her tail around us like she's trying to, whack us with the bandage. She is looking forward to getting that thing off.
We are sad for our friends, Joel and Renee, who lost their Emily Grace this week. We are thankful to have gotten to meet her, and we praise God that she is now home with Jesus.
