Autumn

This is such a great time of the year. We're visiting the Pine Tree Apple Orchard weekly, some trees are starting to put on their colorful show, the birds are migrating through again... So many fun things about fall! The zucchini and cucumber plants were done and yellowing - last weekend I spent quite a bit of time doing garden clean-up. We harvested our potatoes and pulled up over 22 pounds. Yum! There are still tomatoes coming in... They, along with the zucchini, had taken over our kitchen. This week we froze lots of whole tomatoes and shredded zucchini.


My parents came over for grilled burgers and tasty garden treats on Labor Day. I got to have Dad try one of our cantaloupe, and I cooked up a quarter of one of the blue hubbard squashes. Mom and Dad had lots of fun and everything was delicious.


It sounds like there may be frost soon... I'm not planning to take in the green tomatoes. I'll just keep picking the ripe ones until it's too late. But I've heard that some people will take all their green ones at some point and do something with them. Maybe next year.
